Sleep Forum - Questions & Answers

Sleep aids????

Question: I have had pretty severe insomnia for the past 4 nights and I have to get sleep tonight or I am going to lose it. Have you taken any over the counter sleep aids and what was your experience with them? I would prefer not to feel groggy in the morning but I have to get sleep somehow! Please help me out! Ive never had problem like this before!

Answer: Every once in a while I have a heck of a time getting to sleep it's just horrible. I don't like to take anything unless I have to but I do find Tylenol PM works great. 2 pills 1 hour before bedtime & I fall right off to sleep. No side effects what so ever. Wake up feeling like I have had a good night sleep. Good luck to you. Sweet dreams.

What are some over the counter sleep aids I could use to help me fall asleep at night?

I have no trouble sleeping once I get to sleep; It's getting to sleep that's the problem. What would need to be done to get prescription sleep aids? Any information would be appreciated.

Answer: try to sleep early night use fruits specially orange use folic acid containing foods specially vegetable and fruits be happy

Are there any sleep aids that are safe to use during the first trimester?

Question: I'm exhausted but I can't sleep at night...I've been getting four hours a night, not counting the times I wake up in the middle of the nights. Are any OTC or prescription sleep aids safe to use? What other remedies would solve my problem? *I've had sleeping problems for about 8 years now, but have been sleeping well regularly since May. Now, it seems to be a problem again.

Answer: check with your OB but most of them will agree that a low dose of benedryl is okay to take in the first trimester. I know for a fact that ambien is a no-no in the first trimester...LOL I was in the same situation..insomniac in misery since my son was born 4 years ago...getting through this recent pregnancy was miserable...no sleep for 9 months. For what it's worth I've been sleeping great since my daughter was born 2 weeks ago!

Do sleep aids replenish your body the way REM sleep does, because i learned they make you skip REM?

Question: In school, i learned that sleep aids made you skip REM sleep, so it would have been better to go with alternative less medicated methods to sleep. I've heard people though say that, on sleep aids they wake up replenished just the same as if they had their REM sleep. So was the information outdate, or possibly something overlooked?

Answer: It depends on the sleep aid. I prefer Valerian root pills. They are a natural supplement, and they put me into a deep deep REM. I also don't wake up all groggy, but it is harder to pull me out of sleep. I can't wake up to an alarm. They give you extremely vivid dreams they are really neat.
